Ed Ott – Field Manager, Sussex

Ed Ott is in his second season as manager of the Skyhawks. He spent the 2007-2009 seasons with the New Jersey Jackals, serving as their hitting and third base coach.

Ott was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 23rd round of the 1970 draft. The 60 year-old played seven seasons with the Pirates (1974-1980), before being traded to the California Angels prior to the 1981 season. In 1979, he rode a bicycle from Philadelphia to spring training in Bradenton, FL in support of Tug McGraw’s charitable foundation for muscular dystrophy. In the 1979 World Series vs. the Baltimore Orioles, he it .333, with a double, two runs scored and three RBI for the Pirates.

The Muncy, PA native began his managerial career with the Pirates organization in Prince William (1985) and (Watertown (1986). Ott served as a bench coach for the Houston Astros (1989-1993) and Detroit Tigers (2001-2002). He managed the Allentown Ambassadors for five seasons, winning Northeast League manager of year honors in 1998 and 1999.
