To put Chris Colabello's feat into proper perspective one must realize he is only the 38th player to break into the professional game at the non-affiliated level and climb all the way to the major leagues.
Trois-Rivieres gave Rockland a ninth inning scare, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate, but Boulders RHP Kevin Fuqua (pictured) got his club out of trouble to nail down a 6-2 win. The Aigles loaded the bases with two outs, forcing Rockland to call on Fuqua out of the bullpen. With the tying run at the plate, Fuqua struck out Aigles SS Phil Delisle to end the game and pick up his third save of the season.

CAN-AM LEAGUE WELCOMES SECOND FRENCH-CITY

The Can-Am League has had to settle for one Canadian team in recent years, and now there is a second; even better, another French-speaking city with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles restoring a professional team to the community no more than 90 minutes from Quebec.

In what probably is a vast understatement, Pierre Luc (Pete) LaForest bluntly told me this week "I am excited". Why not, he is the Aigles' manager, his first such undertaking, after spending the last four seasons helping the Quebec Capitales to back, to back, to back, to back Can-Am crowns

DELABAR'S SUCCESS HAS OTHERS LOOKING AT HIS PROGRAM

In Toronto's early season of disappointment, one of the few consistent positive performances have come from reliever Steve Delabar (pictured), still little more than three years after his career seemed dead when he fractured his right (throwing) elbow at Brockton, MA (Can-Am League) that led to the insertion of a metal plate and nine screws.

The eventual salvation for Delabar, now 29, was to turn to an academy in Kentucky where his throwing technique was overhauled.

Thinking about catchers, Zane Chavez (pictured)reeled off seven hits in 13 at-bats over a four-game stretch until he took an 0-for-4 today (Thursday), but his first try at affiliated baseball still sees him hitting .299 with a .385 on-base percentage and playing regularly for Frederick, MD in the Baltimore system. He started out in the Can-Am League (New Hampshire, Pittsfield, MA, New Jersey Jackals).

Another Can-Am player (Worcester, MA) infielder Mark Minicozzi also went hitless today after four games in which he went 7-for-16 for San Francisco's Double-A farm in Richmond, VA

COLABELLO POSTS BIG MINOR LEAGUE STATS

When tracking Independent grads now in affiliated minor leagues, we once again single out longtime Can-Am League first baseman Chris Colabello (pictured, Worcester, MA and Nashua, NH) because his six home runs share second place in the Triple-A International League, only one off the league lead. The Minnesota farmhand is hitting .338 with a .390 on-base percentage and 15 RBI in 20 games.
