DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA-Sportsticker, has selected Worcester Tornadoes DH Nick Salotti and New Jersey Jackals RHP Ted Serro as the Teamline Direct Players of the Week.
Salotti batted .500 in seven games this past week with one home run, 10 RBI and five runs scored. He collected 14 hits, four of which were doubles, slugged .750 and had a.500 on-base percentage. In the 13-4 win over the American Defenders of New Hampshire this past Thursday, Salotti was 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, two doubles and four runs batted in. Currently, the Palm Desert, CA resident is hitting .410 with one home run and 10 RBI.
The 25-year-old is playing in his third season of independent baseball. Salotti played the previous two seasons in the Frontier League. In 2007, Salotti played in Florence while last season he split time with Florence and Evansville.
Serro pitched seven solid innings in the 6-0 win over the Brockton Rox this past Thursday. He allowed one walk and three hits while striking out four Rox batters. He currently has a record of 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts.
The Brooklyn, NY native was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2006 MLB draft. He played the 2006 and 2007 seasons in the Blue Jays system before coming over to the Jackals in 2008. Last season with New Jersey, he was 5-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 93 1/3 innings pitched.
