Worcester C had .905 Slugging Percentage; Brockton RHP Hurled Eight Shutout Innings
DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA Sportsticker, has selected Worcester Tornadoes C Patrick Perry and Brockton Rox RHP John Kelly (pictured) as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 2nd-July 8th.
In six games, Perry batted .381 (8-for-21) with three home runs and 10 RBI. The 24-year-old also hit two doubles, scored four runs and had a slugging percentage of .905. In a 7-2 victory over the Nashua Pride this past Tuesday, Perry went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a RBI and a home run. For the season, Perry is hitting .319 with four home runs, 25 RBI and 11 doubles.
The Longmont, CO resident was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2004 MLB draft. He played two seasons with the Red Sox before coming to Worcester in 2006. Last season, Perry batted .246 with 16 runs scored, 30 hits and 11 RBI in 42 games played.
Kelly was superb in the 6-0 shutout of the Grays this past Friday night. The Leominster, MA resident pitched eight scoreless innings allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out nine Grays’ batters. For the season, Kelly is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA. He is first in the Can-Am in innings pitched (66), second in strikeouts (60) and fourth in ERA (1.64).
The 34-year-old was an 11th round selection of the New York Mets in the 1994 MLB draft. Along with the Mets, Kelly has pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners organizations. He has also hurled in Mexico, Taiwan and Italy as well as in the independent leagues with North Shore, New Jersey, Waterbury, Minot and his current team Brockton.
